As it is known cocoa is enjoyed in various products around the world. Though people adore this delicacy, however few know the history and the facts hidden behind cocoa. Here are some interesting facts regarding cocoa and I do hope that it will interest you.
  1. People often use cacao and cocoa thinking they are the same thing. However, they are different and their difference is that cacao is the bean and cocoa is the product made from it.
  2. Cocoa trees are planted next to tall trees in order to be protected from direct sunlight. And this is the main reason why you often come across cocoa trees planted next to mango and papaya tress.
  3. Over 70% of the world’s cocoa comes from West Africa, which provides the bulk of cocoa used for mass-produced chocolate.
  4. The UK is considered to be the largest “chocolate” consumer in the world.
  5. Cocoa tree need 3 to 5 years to bear fruit. Each tree produces almost 1000 beans a year and this is only enough for making only just 1 kg of chocolate.
